Yes, we’re terrible at updating this blog. Yes, yes, we suck at keeping in touch. But if it’s any excuse – life since May, has been nothing short of intense. A move to Hong Kong, post-production for our Cambodia documentary, film festivals and screenings for PASSABE… The months, they just seem to fly by so quickly.
And then of course, there was the violence in East Timor. We spent days glued to our TV, shocked by images of Dili in flames; read every bit of news we could find, and emailed and sms-d our friends in the country. Our translator sent us a desperate message one morning – “Help me. Alkatiri’s supporters are marching to Dili. There is going to be violence.”
It took two days before we figured out how to wire him money so he could leave the city.
It’s a relief to hear that things are returning to normal now. We’re working with an Australian NGO to help raise funds for the Timorese still living in refugee camps. More details soon.
PASSABE is currently screening at the Melbourne International Film Festival. The organizers said some very nice things about our film, which is always encouraging.
We recently played to a full house at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong.
We will be in competition at the Festival du film Insulaire in France later this month.
In October, we make our North America debut at the Vancouver International Film Festival, where we will compete for the Dragons and Tigers award.
And… we’re getting a theatrical release in Singapore! There are more than 2000 (!) seats to fill, so please spread the word.
